Zalgo Text Generator – Glitch Text Copy & Paste

Zalgo text is ordinary text buried under stacked Unicode combining marks, accents that pile up above, through and below each letter. This Zalgo text generator adds them for you: depending on the intensity you pick, every letter carries 3 to 60 extra marks, so the word turns into creepy glitch text you can copy.

How the Zalgo intensity sliders work

Each slider sets how many marks go on every letter: Up stacks accents above, Mid strikes through the middle, Down hangs them underneath. With the Chaotic effect switched on, the tool adds exactly that many marks; switch it off and each mark only has a 50% chance, so the result is roughly half as tall.

PresetUp · Mid · DownCode points per letter“zalgo” (5 letters) becomes
Mini Zalgo1 · 1 · 1420 characters
Normal Zalgo5 · 5 · 51680 characters
Maxi Zalgo10 · 10 · 1031155 characters
Crazy Zalgo20 · 20 · 2061305 characters

These counts come straight from the generator’s own rules (Chaotic effect on, spaces left plain), and they matter more than how the text looks: almost every name field and bio counts the invisible marks as characters. The marks themselves come from the Combining Diacritical Marks block (U+0300–U+036F), plus one Cyrillic mark, U+0489.

Glitch and creepy symbols to pair with Zalgo text

Zalgo works best with a frame. These skulls, crosses, warning signs and broken-signal decorations are ordinary Unicode characters too, so they paste wherever the Zalgo itself is accepted. They are shown exactly as copied; a few may appear as empty boxes on an older phone.

Where Zalgo text breaks: Discord, Instagram and CODM

Zalgo text fails in two ways: a field rejects combining marks outright, or the marks push the text over a character limit. The table pairs each platform’s published rule with the counts from the presets above. “Fits” is calculated, not guessed; the last column says honestly whether we have pasted it on a live account.

Why Zalgo text overlaps lines and confuses screen readers

Combining marks have no width of their own; each one is drawn on top of the letter before it. When a letter carries 15 or 30 of them, the stack rises into the line above and drops into the line below, which is the glitch effect people want, and also why some apps clip or block it.

Screen readers handle Zalgo text poorly because they read the characters, not the picture: a single styled letter can be announced as a string of accent names. Keep Zalgo for decoration, not for anything a reader needs to understand. The same trade-off applies to every style on this site, and the guide to 10 fancy text styles and the Unicode blocks behind them explains which blocks are most likely to survive.

Zalgo text FAQ

Is Zalgo text safe to paste?

Yes. Zalgo text is ordinary Unicode: letters plus combining accent marks, with no code inside. Very heavy Zalgo can slow down an old phone or spill over the lines above and below it, which is why some chat apps and forums trim it or ask moderators to remove it.

Can I use Zalgo text on Discord?

In messages and in your display name, yes, within the 32-character display name limit, and every mark counts. Not in your username: Discord usernames accept only lowercase letters, numbers, underscores and periods, so the marks are rejected.

Why does my Zalgo text look different after I paste it?

The marks are drawn by the font on the reader’s device, not by us. Each app positions stacked accents differently, and some apps clip anything that rises above or below the line, so the same text can look tall in one place and flat in another.

How do I remove Zalgo text?

Delete the combining marks and keep the base letters. Many text editors can do this with a find-and-replace on the Combining Diacritical Marks range (U+0300 to U+036F); retyping the plain word is quicker for short text.
