Old English, blackletter or Fraktur?
The name is a little misleading. Old English is a language, the English of Anglo-Saxon England; the lettering people mean is blackletter, and the Unicode characters behind it are named MATHEMATICAL FRAKTUR. Fraktur is one style of blackletter, and it was encoded for mathematicians, who use it for symbols such as 𝔤 for a Lie algebra. Of all our fancy text styles, it is the one that looks most like a font while being nothing of the kind.
Which Old English capitals are borrowed
Regular Fraktur has five holes. The capitals C, H, I, R and Z were encoded earlier in the Letterlike Symbols block, so the matching slots in Mathematical Alphanumeric Symbols were left empty and the generator uses the older characters instead. Bold Fraktur has no holes: all 26 capitals sit together in one block.

Because the borrowed capitals come from a different block, a font can draw them in a slightly different weight from the rest of the word; bold Old English avoids that. Whether Old English text survives depends on the field, not on the generator. Is Old English text a font?
No. It is a sequence of Unicode Fraktur characters, which is why it keeps its gothic look when you paste it into a bio or message where fonts cannot be changed.
Why do C, H, I, R and Z look different?
In regular Old English those five capitals come from the older Letterlike Symbols block, so some fonts draw them slightly differently. Bold Old English uses one block for every capital and looks more even.
Can I use Old English text for a tattoo design?
It works well for trying out wording, but the shapes you see depend on your device’s font. Show the artist the idea and let them draw the lettering properly.
