A serif font generator turns plain text into Unicode letters with serifs, the small strokes at the ends of each letter, such as 𝐒𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐟, 𝑆𝑒𝑟𝑖𝑓 and 𝑺𝒆𝒓𝒊𝒇. They come from the Mathematical Alphanumeric Symbols block, the only place Unicode encodes serif letters as separate characters you can copy.
Type in the box, choose Bold serif, Italic serif or Bold italic serif, and press Copy. Sans-serif bold is there for comparison. Below you will find 42 serif text examples and the quirks of each serif alphabet.

Serif vs sans-serif Unicode letters
Ordinary text has no font of its own: the reader’s device decides whether it looks serif or sans-serif. To force serifs you have to switch to different characters, and Unicode has exactly three serif alphabets for Latin letters, all in the Mathematical Alphanumeric Symbols block. If you want something without serifs, our font guides cover bold, cursive and small caps as well.
| Style | Looks like | Capital A | Digits | Gaps |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Bold serif | 𝐒𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐟 | U+1D400 | Yes: 𝟎–𝟗 (U+1D7CE–U+1D7D7) | None |
| Italic serif | 𝑆𝑒𝑟𝑖𝑓 | U+1D434 | No: numbers stay plain | Small h is borrowed: ℎ (U+210E) |
| Bold italic serif | 𝑺𝒆𝒓𝒊𝒇 | U+1D468 | No: numbers stay plain | None |
| Sans-serif bold (comparison) | 𝗦𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗳 | U+1D5D4 | Yes: 𝟬–𝟵 | None |
All four sit outside the Basic Multilingual Plane, so every letter is stored as two UTF-16 code units and can count double toward a character limit. The guide to the Unicode blocks behind fancy text compares this block with the others.

The missing italic h
The italic serif alphabet has one hole. Its slot for a small h, U+1D455, was left empty because an italic h had already been encoded years earlier as ℎ, U+210E PLANCK CONSTANT. The generator fills the gap with that character, so “hello” becomes ℎ𝑒𝑙𝑙𝑜. In most fonts it matches; in a few it is drawn slightly differently from the letters around it.
Screen readers read these characters by name, so 𝐒𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐟 may be announced as “mathematical bold capital S” rather than the word. Use serif letters for decoration, and keep anything a reader must understand in plain text.
Where serif text works: Discord, Instagram and CODM
Whether serif text survives depends on the field, not on the generator. A username field usually accepts only plain letters, while a display name or bio accepts almost any Unicode character up to a length limit. The table below pairs each platform’s published rule with what it means for serif text; the last column says honestly whether we have pasted it on a live account.
| Platform and field | Published rule | What that means for serif text | Live paste test |
|---|---|---|---|
| Discord username | 2–32 characters; lowercase letters, numbers, underscore and period only | Rejected: serif text uses characters outside that set | Rule from Discord’s help center; not pasted |
| Discord display name | 1–32 characters; special characters allowed | Allowed by the rule; each serif letter is one character but two UTF-16 code units | Not yet tested on a live account |
| Instagram username | Letters, numbers, periods and underscores | Rejected: styled letters are not in that set | Not yet tested on a live account |
| Instagram bio | 150 characters | Allowed by the rule; long lines may hit the limit sooner than plain text | Not yet tested on a live account |
| Call of Duty: Mobile name | Short name field; published guides disagree on the exact limit (14–16 characters) and the game filters some symbols | May be refused or shortened; the game decides | Not yet tested in game |
Rules reviewed 7 October 2026. Platforms change their filters without notice, so paste into the real field before you rely on it. Discord, Instagram and Call of Duty: Mobile are trademarks of their owners (Call of Duty is published by Activision); SoShareIT Fancy Text is an independent site with no connection to them.

Serif font FAQ
What is a serif font?
A serif font has small strokes at the ends of its letters, as in Times New Roman. Copy-and-paste serif text works differently: it swaps your letters for serif characters from the Mathematical Alphanumeric Symbols block, so the serifs travel with the text.
Can I use serif text on Instagram?
In a bio, yes: Instagram allows special characters there within its 150-character limit. In a username, no: usernames accept only letters, numbers, periods and underscores.
Is serif text the same as bold text?
Not quite. Bold serif is one of the three serif styles; italic and bold italic serif are not bold at all. Sans-serif bold is bold without serifs.
Why does my serif text show as boxes?
The reader’s device has no font that covers the Mathematical Alphanumeric Symbols block. The text itself is intact; it will display correctly on a device that has the right font.
For other looks, the SoShareIT Fancy Text generator turns the same words into bubble, square, cursive or small caps in one tap.
